Definition

A set formalizes the intuitive idea of a collection of objects.

A set is uniquely specified by the elements it contains.

Frequently the elements of a set \(A\) are specified as the elements of some larger (known) set \(S\) satisfying some property \(P\).

\[ A = \set{s \in S \mid s\ \text{satisfies}\ P} \]
